Named for the African American educator, leader, and writer, several New Deal-era agencies constructed this park for the use of African Americans during segregation. Located outside of Chattanooga and along the Chickamauga Lake, hilly areas dense forest are ideal for hikers, bikers, and birders. Dozens of species of fish can also be caught by boat, by bank, and from the lake's fishing pier.
