Inside a 1907 powerhouse, this museum showcases the inner workings of the last manually operated cable car system in the world. This technology helped to save the city’s transit after the 1906 earthquake. Giant spinning sheaves and gripping machinery are still used to move the iconic streetcars. Original cable cars from the 1870s are on display, along with classic cables and photographs.
