A New Deal-era program sparked the creation of this 1,720-acre park on the Cumberland Plateau. The Works Progress Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps built the area’s facilities, including the sandstone Byrd Creek Dam. Byrd Lake supports water sports and fishing, and miles of dedicated mountain biking and hiking trails travel along the waterways and through forested areas.
