Over tens of thousands of years, bottomland hardwood forest grew on a rich floodplain north of Memphis. A fertile area of bayou, swamp, water tupelo, and bald cypress protects hundreds of species of plants, mammals, and birds. Hiking trails explore this area of the Mississippi River Alluvial Plain, wind through upland forest, and ascend the Chickasaw Bluffs overlooking Poplar Tree Lake.
