Believed to be one of the oldest living things east of the Mississippi River, the Angel Oak took root long before the state’s settlement by the English. It stands 65 feet high with a canopy that shades more than 17,000 square feet. According to legend, the ghosts of former slaves appear as angels around the iconic tree.
