37 miles long and less than one mile wide, this barrier island belongs to a chain extending along the East Coast. The seashore protects over 41,000 acres of land and water fostering rich ecosystems. Within the marshlands, woods, forests, and bays, Assateague wild horses roam the park and waterfowl find respite during their annual migrations.
