At this site on December 17, 1903, Orville Wright went airborne in an airplane. His brother, Wilbur, steadied the wings as the Wright Flyer rolled for takeoff. A tall granite monument and a bust of Wilbur honor the 12-second flight. Museum exhibits and replicas of buildings and aircraft tell the story of their historic achievement.
