Providing a scenic mountain backdrop to the Copper River, Mount Sanford (to the left of Mount Drum) soars to 16,237 feet in the park’s northwest. Sanford is the sixth highest mountain in the United States. Wrangell- St. Elias astoundingly is home to nine of the 16 highest peaks in the country, including Mount St. Elias, at 18,008 feet America’s second tallest.
