A concrete cross in Colonial National Historical Park commemorates the landing of British colonists in 1607. Weeks later, they established North America’s first permanent English settlement at Jamestown. In 1781, within sight of Cape Henry, a French naval victory helped
seal the fate of Britain’s forces in the Revolutionary War.
