Planning a trip? Check out the Liberia House Historic Site website.
Built in 1825 by enslaved laborers owned by the Weirs, Liberia has a rich and complicated history. Its operation as a farm was interrupted only once, during the Civil War.
The home served as headquarters to both armies and was visited by Presidents Davis and Lincoln during the war. The signatures of Union soldiers are still visible on upstairs walls. Today, the site shares the stories of all who lived here.
