In autumn of 1781, allied American and French forces led by General George Washington besieged Lord Cornwallis’s British troops in Yorktown. The ensuing battle ended in British surrender on October 19th and the eventual end of the Revolutionary War. Today, visitors walk or drive along old fortifications, some reused during the Civil War.
