Rising 4,800 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor to an elevation of about 8,840 feet, Half Dome is an iconic granitic colossus ascended by long, rigorous and potentially risky hiking routes. Steel cables assist climbers the final 400 feet. Half Dome hikers who make the ascent are rewarded with magnificent vistas of the Yosemite Valley and distant Sierra Nevada summits.
