This Labrador wilderness is eastern Canada’s largest national park reserve. A 50-kilometer sweep of sand called the Wunderstrand appears in Norse sagas telling of Viking voyages a millennium ago. Roadless and accessible only by air, sea, or snowmobile, it protects remote alpine terrain and threatened Mealy Mountains caribou herds.
