Constructed by enslaved people in the early 19th century, this site honors the former Confederate commander's efforts to reunite the nation after he nearly separated it permanently. Visitors tour the museum, home, and slave quarters at Lee's plantation where they contemplate some of the most difficult aspects of American History.
