Planning a trip? Check out the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park website.

In 1790, Samuel Slater constructed the country's first water-powered cotton-spinning mill along the Blackstone River in Pawtucket. Fellow industrialists followed his lead, building texture mills and mill villages along the 48-mile-long river. Visitors can explore Old Slater Mill by land and paddle along the river from Worcester to Providence.

While you're here, don't forget to grab out Massachusetts and Rhode Island stamps.
