Certified in December of 2021, Cape Lookout became the first Atlantic coastal Dark Sky Place. The dark skies here are some of the darkest along the east coast and is one of the few places where the Milky Way can be seen with the natural eye. On clear nights, stars can be seen reflected in the pristine ocean shorelines, salt marshes, and tidal flats.
