Completed in 1695, the impenetrable Castillo withstood centuries of aggression and regime change. Strategically located on Matanzas Bay overlooking St. Augustine, the fort changed hands under Spanish, British, and American rule. Today, visitors tour the preserved interior, hear cannon and musket firings, and observe re-enactments.
