This site commemorates the 16th-century Coronado Expedition, which failed to find treasure in today’s Southwest. The views along the U.S.-Mexico border from the memorial’s roadside overlook at Montezuma Pass are pure gold, however. This bird-watching hot spot where visitors spelunk in Coronado Cave also offers sightings of the white-nosed coati, a member of the raccoon family.
