The Pioneer Monument is the centerpiece at this Sierra Nevada park. The bronze statue depicting a pioneer man, woman and child, their eyes fixed on the western skyline, was built on the site of a cabin that sheltered Donner Party members during the tragic winter of 1846-47. The site is a happier place today, offering a museum, camping, hiking, boating, fishing and winter activities.
