Dating back to 1703, this alley is widely recognized as the nation’s oldest continuously inhabited residential street. The museum’s brick rowhouses were once occupied by the artisans, tradespeople, and immigrants who shaped early Philadelphia. Through artifacts that reflect everyday survival rather than elite history, it tells the story of over three centuries of American working-class life.
