This 1909 Colonial Revival hotel was built by Freelan Oscar Stanley as a health retreat. It originally offered rare modern comforts like telephones, electric lighting, and running water. In 1974, Stephen King stayed in Room 217, famously inspiring both the novel and film, The Shining. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, it pairs storied lodging with tours, concerts, and film events.
