Planning a trip? Check out Fort Martin Scott at the Texas Historical Commission.
Established in 1848, this was Texas’ first U.S. Army frontier fort, operating until 1853. Today, visitors can explore replica structures and original historic buildings, including Texas’ oldest surviving U.S. Army frontier guardhouse.
The site is designated as a State Archaeological Landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
