Located along a 2.5-mile hiking loop at this high-desert site is a cabin that housed David Haddenham and his family while he performed fossil-quarrying duties during the early 20th century. Hundreds of extraordinarily well-preserved plant, animal, fish and bird fossils on display in the visitor center offer glimpses into life in a subtropical lake environment as far back as 56 million years ago.
