Visitors touring this massive structure linking Nevada and Arizona enter one of the great construction achievements of the 20th century. Towering 725 feet above the Colorado River, the dam impounds Lake Mead, America’s first and largest recreation area. It stores both municipal and irrigation water for urban centers and farmland in the west and generates enough power to serve 1.3 million people.
