Planning a trip? Check out the Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park website.

This cultural preserve holds North America's largest collection of bedrock mortar holes. Its popular limestone outcrop contains 1,185 cavities carved through centuries of acorn grinding by the Northern Sierra Miwok, as well as ancient petroglyphs. Each fall, Native families gather here for Big Time, a traditional celebration of the acorn harvest.
