Over 8,000 years ago, Native peoples pursued bison, deer, and moose to water sites within the Itasca wilderness. Today this spot is preserved as the Bison Kill Site and is among the 32,000 acres protected within the state’s oldest state park, Est. 1891. This bird watcher’s paradise is the gateway to the Headwaters of the Mississippi River and offers year-round recreation opportunities for visitors.
