Juan Bautista de Anza, former governor of the Province of New Mexico, sought to establish a mission and presidio in San Francisco. Today portions of his historic routes can be followed by foot, car, bike, or horse throughout Arizona and California. The trail winds 1600 miles through dynamic scenery and important historical and cultural sites.
