Katmai visitors are virtually assured they will see one of nature’s most fearsome creatures, the brown bear. More than 2,000 of these magnificent mammals – one of the world’s greatest concentrations – enjoy the park’s pristine habitats. As many as two dozen brown bears at a time have been spotted fishing for sockeye salmon 
at Brooks Falls on midsummer days.
