Kenai Fjords, a park once completely covered by glaciers, today sees half its area remaining under ice. The park is home to several tidewater glaciers that slowly flow to the sea. Heavy snow continually falls and compacts under the accumulating weight. Cool summers minimize melting. Gravity pulls the glaciers downhill toward the park’s wildlife-rich coastal waters.
