The Keeweenaw Peninsula is home to Quincy Mining Company’s former properties where copper was extracted as far as 9,260 feet below the earth. Built in 1848, the mine became known as “Old Reliable” as it paid many dividends from its abundance of copper. Today, visitors can take guided tours down into the mines to see relics of the past.
