Barrier islands and sweeping dunes shelter lagoons, salt marshes, peat bogs, and Acadian forest across New Brunswick’s coast. Offshore sandbars host one of Atlantic Canada’s largest gray seal colonies, while boardwalks and 60 kilometers of trails cross the wetlands. Its remarkably dark skies earned Dark-Sky Preserve status in 2009. Its name is a Mi’gmaq word meaning “river of the long tides.”
