In this remote complex of three National Wildlife Refuges covering over 10 million acres, meandering rivers like the Nowitna River serve as the only “highways.” Thousands of migratory waterfowl and songbirds nest and molt along floodplains, river basins, and wetlands. Furbearers, like the marten and brown bears, find sanctuary in the boreal forest.
