Opened in 1969, this is known as the “State Zoo of Kentucky.” Its advanced habitats include an 80,000-gallon bear pool, a forest sanctuary for western lowland gorillas, and an award-winning Islands exhibit that rotates orangutans, tigers, and tapirs. Its pioneering breeding program has also produced over 1,000 endangered black-footed ferret kits—a species once declared extinct.
