The Revolutionary War officially ended with General George Washington’s resignation from the Continental Army and the ratification of the Treaty of Paris within the Old Senate Chamber. Construction of the State House concluded in 1799 and would later become the nation’s first peacetime capitol. Today, this National Historic Landmark is the oldest state house in the country still in continuous legislative use.
