Perched at the ocean's edge in a former sardine cannery on Montery’s fabled Cannery Row, this non-profit aquarium welcomed its first visitors in October 1984. The nearly three-story living Kelp Forest exhibit was the first of its kind and continues to be the focal point of the Ocean’s Edge Wing. The aquarium houses more than 35,000 animals and plants, including sharks, sea turtles, sea otters, and penguins.
