Rodents fled a tannery ablaze on these lands during the Civil War period, lending this park east of the Tennessee River its name. Though the park’s naming is based on legends, real ruins of the former river village including a pier, blacksmith shop, and cemetery remain. Paddlers, fishers, boaters, and swimmers can enjoy water recreation along the river and the park’s creeks and waterways.
