This iconic WWII dive-bomber, entering service in 1940, helped define naval air power. Though slower and lightly armed, it sank four Japanese carriers at Midway and downed 138 enemy aircraft. Inventive perforated flaps enabled steep 70-plus degree dives. Of the 5,936 built, the museum holds 16 – all recovered from Lake Michigan.
