The quaint New England town of New Bedford was once the wealthiest city in the world and the capital of 19th Century whaling industry because of its deep harbor and prime location. Whaling ships sailing far and wide in hunt of whales were fully integrated with Native Americans, African Americans and Europeans working side-by-side on deck.
