This 387,000-acre forest in central Florida is the oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River. Established in 1908, it protects the world’s largest sand pine scrub ecosystem, the state’s highest concentration of black bears, and endangered panther habitat. Boasting more than 600 lakes and springs, visitors flock to Juniper, Silver Glen, and Alexander Springs to enjoy the refreshing 72° F freshwater.
