Spanning 5,353 feet across the Mississippi River this crossing just north of St. Louis once carried the legendary Mother Road. It famously features a rare 22-degree bend midway. It rises over 60 feet above the water and became part of the highway system in 1936 before closing to vehicles in 1970. It now serves as a pedestrian and bicycle trail that preserves its role as a landmark of early highway travel.
