Founded in 1854 along the Missouri River, this former ferry crossing grew into a Union Pacific powerhouse, booming with railroads and stockyards. Known as the “Gateway to the West,” its frontier legacy is still prevalent today in many of Old Market’s brick warehouses downtown. With the College World Series, Warren Buffett ties, and riverfront renewal, this remains a key city of the Great Plains.
