Opened in 1907 to connect shoppers directly with farmers, this downtown Seattle bazaar sold out by lunchtime on day one. Its 1937 clock-and-neon sign became a city icon, while fishmongers turned open-air salmon tossing into theater. Today, it is one of the nation’s oldest continuously operating public farmers markets and is now a National Register historic district.
