The White House was home, but Abraham Lincoln and his family spent more than a quarter of his presidency in a summer “cottage” at this retirement facility for military veterans. Visitors take lake strolls on the grounds and guided tours of the large Gothic Revival residence where the Union’s Civil War leader made critical decisions.
