Planning a trip? Check out the Presidio La Bahía State Historic Site at the Texas Historical Commission.
Established in 1749, the Presidio played a key role in Texas' independence struggle and was the location of the Goliad Massacre in 1836. "Remember Goliad" became a rallying cry at the Battle of San Jacinto. Today, the site is designated a National Historic Landmark and is considered the world's finest example of a Spanish frontier fort.
