Centuries ago, defeated warriors and breakers of kapu (sacred laws) had hope: successfully escape to this place of refuge in order to receive absolution from a Kahuna (priest). A self guided trail tour leads through the hallowed site, visiting its Great Wall, fishponds, canoe landing, temple/mausoleum and other structures.
