Chartered as a joint venture between these two cities, “RDU” opened in 1943 with its first terminal built from leftover Army Air Forces barracks. Today, its Terminal 2 is famed for its lenticular wood trusses – a rare use of timber on a major airport roof. Outside, an observation park provides visitors with live tower audio and runway views.
