Built from sandstone quarried when Route 66 was being paved through Stroud, this 1939 roadside café literally carries the road in its walls. Roy Rives reportedly bought the leftover rock for $5. The building joined the National Register in 2001. After a fire gutted the interior, the original rock shell was preserved and rebuilt under owner Dawn Welch who inspired Sally Carrera in Pixar’s Cars.
