Their prickly arms raised toward the desert sky, the park’s more than 1.5 million saguaro cacti are unique to the Sonoran Desert of the American Southwest and northern Mexico. When fully grown, Saguaro’s photogenic giants may be 50 feet high and weigh more than six tons. Saguaro trees also provide nesting refuge for several larger and smaller bird species.
