The Royal Navy established a camp on the north end of San Juan Island on Garrison Bay in 1860. Scenic, with several gardens in addition to formal structures, the camp outlasted their departure at the end of the Pig War. Surviving structures and a network of hiking trails remain to the Parade Ground and up to Mt. Young, among others.
