Nestled along the Wisconsin River in southern Wisconsin, this scenic riverway offers access to state parks, trails, and riverfront views making it a year-round destination for birders, boaters, and bikers alike. The area is renowned for being one of best places in the Midwest to spot bald eagles, especially in winter when they gather near the Prairie du Sac Dam where the river remains ice-free.
"When I visit that area, I don't just see the Eagles soaring through the air. I see an amazing creature overcoming adversity. The people of this area did the right thing to allow me to see a raptor flying through the air.... From what I understand, before the banning of DDT in the 1970s, the farmer that lived in the farm house understood the Eagles' importance and never used the chemical on his crops (1940s - 1970s). I also heard the farmers' successor will not allow anyone on the land to disturb or make financial gain from the communal roosts. I feel that both farmers did and our doing the right thing.
